Essential Grammar Unit 1


  A. Modal Auxiliary 'should'

The modal ‘should’ gives information about whether something is a good idea. We often use should to express an opinion.

Example:
  • You should watch the new stand up comedy. It’s really entertaining.
  • We shouldn’t watch too much television.


  B.  –ing and –ed Adjectives

Adjectives which come from verbs (participles) can have two forms:


Verb (kata kerja)
Adjective 1 (present participle
Adjective 2 (past participle)

Amusing
Amused
Bore
Bored
Boring
Interest
Interesting
Interested
Worry
Worrying
Worried
Surprise
Surprising
Surprising
Please
Pleasing

We use the –ed form of interest to talk about how people feel
1.        I’m interested in Math.
2.        Ines was excited to go on a bus around Jakarta.

We use the –ing form of interest to talk about the subject
1.       it was surprising that he got 750 for the TOEIC test. 
2.    Julia thinks Math is interesting.
